Overcharging, exposure to heat, and even improper sleep mode use slowly degrade performance. According to Battery University, a lithium-ion battery loses around 20% of its capacity after just 300–500 charge cycles, but careless use accelerates this process.

This article explores four common mistakes that quietly drain your laptop battery’s potential. By avoiding them, you can extend its life, save on costly replacements, and finally ease that constant low-battery anxiety.

The Hidden Cost of Overcharging

Most people believe keeping a laptop plugged in is harmless. After all, modern devices stop charging once they hit 100%. But the truth is more complex.

Inside every lithium-ion battery, charging cycles wear down its chemistry. Even when a battery is “full,” maintaining it at 100% puts stress on the cells.
