It is easy to get hung up on air pollution outside your home but the reality is that the air inside your home can be just as polluted. Fortunately, there are a lot of solutions to this problem. Here are the top things that you can do to improve the air quality inside your home:

Maintain Filters and Ducts Properly

Do you have an air conditioner in your home? How about HVAC system? If so, these have filters and ducts that need to be maintained on a regular basis. Some of this maintenance you can do by yourself and the rest needs to be handled by professionals.

Regardless, create a schedule for when you or the professionals need to clean these ducts and filters and stick to it. This will ensure that the dirty air isn’t being moved from one area of your home to another.

Switch Out Your Windows

Improving the air quality inside of your home is often as easy as opening up your windows. Unfortunately, far few people bother to do this but it is time to start.

If your frames and panes are several years old, then it is probably time for Guelph windows replacement – when switching your old frames out for new ones, pay attention to the style. Look for ones that can open for the greatest amount of ventilation. The sliding tilt designs are especially good for this.

Of course, in the summer or the winter you may want a little bit more control over just how much cold or hot air is entering your home. In this case, Barrie windows replacement in the form of bay or bow designs may be better suited to you. Look closely at all the options available to you and go with the one that offers the greatest level of ventilation.

Use a Ventilator Fan When Cooking

You may not think of the fumes and smoke released from food as pollutants but this is precisely what they are. If they hang around in your home long enough, they will compromise the air quality inside your house. Thus, it is important to use a fan whenever you are cooking.

If you don’t have a fan, try keeping your window or door open until any odors or smoke has dissipated completely.

Reduce Carpeting in Your Home

Wherever possible, keep your floors bare and free of carpet. Carpets may be warm and cozy but they trap an incredible amount of dust and allergens in them. In turn, they can reduce the air quality – the more carpet there is, the unhealthier it is. The same goes for too many rugs.

If you insist on keeping the carpet, then make sure to do a thorough cleaning on a regular basis. In fact, you may want to get a professional cleaning service to tackle this to ensure that there is no build up of dust and other pollutants.

Tired of breathing in old and dirty air? Well, this doesn’t have to be your burden anymore. With the tips and guidelines here you can ensure that your home becomes a fresh and healthy environment in no time at all!
