Most businesses tend to overlook the importance of design in their products and services. However, from the powerful words that call someone to action to the unique design of a logo to the different types of colors used, the design has a massive influence in enticing potential customers to buy a particular product or avail of a specific service. Even though the psychology of how colors, designs, and even words affect the minds of the consumer is relatively complex and baffling, knowing the basics of consumer psychology and the factors that affect it pays off quite often, even if you are just designing a logo or a website for a company. Knowing the things that entice consumers to buy a product or service allows you to create effective design strategies that will attract more customers to your business.

In this Age of Information and because of certain events such as the COVID-19 pandemic, more and more consumers skip the lines in the supermarket and sit on their computers or smartphones browsing on websites for both safety and convenience when it comes to shopping. Online retail is becoming more popular, and therefore many customers start to browse through websites to buy products or even get services. With that in mind, knowing how web design affects consumer behavior is key to your business’s success. But how does web design affect consumer behavior specifically?

Table of Contents

  • Web Page Outline
  • Color Matrix
  • Ease of use

Web Page Outline

When first opening a website, most customers will get to see the outline and look of your website, where the words and pictures are placed, sections are categorized, and many more. Powerful, catchy words and phrases, as well as well-angled, high-resolution photos of your products and services, are essential. Still, if they are not appropriately placed on a web page or if the web page looks messy and improperly outlined, then customers looking at your website might become hesitant to buy your product or service or even go to the other parts of the website. A web design that is elegant, simple, and aesthetic will make customers stay for a bit and then make the final purchase.

With that being said, how your website is outlined extremely important as this creates the first impression of your company along with the product and service that it wants to sell. An excellent and professional-looking website design entices customers to buy, and your website outline is a perfect place to start.

Color Matrix

From making logos to films, color has a significant effect on both consumers and moviegoers alike. Each color, along with a specific hue and shade, represents a particular ideal and impacts the human brain. Blue is a popular color used in various logos and businesses, while pink is often associated with femininity. This rule also applies to websites. Different colors should complement each other on a particular webpage, and while a webpage can show colors shown in the company’s logo, bright colors such as orange, red, and even yellow could also be used to create a sense of urgency which could attract more customers that will buy your product or service.

Ease of use

Looking at a website creates one kind of impression but using it to browse, read content, and even click to purchase a product or service makes another one. A good web design balances aesthetics with ease of use. Therefore, a useful web page should be easy to use and can be used anywhere, whether using a computer or a mobile device. A poorly designed website buggy and hard to use dissuade customers from buying your product or service. They could feel frustrated and disappointed with using your product before excited about the product or service you are offering.

While several factors could cause a website to lag often or become difficult to use, it is essential to make sure that your website can be easily used by anyone at any device at any time so that customers could go back for more. Web design is an integral part of doing business in the 21st century. As more people browse on websites to shop, you should step up and either create a website for your company or improve your existing one. But this task could seem daunting, especially for those who have zero experience in web design and development. Therefore, you would need the help of a web design agency, top-rated and gives priority to security and transparency. Working with professionals gives you a better shot at creating the kind of design that attracts customers and compels them to choose you over the competition.
