Google Chrome has been the gold standard of internet explorers since 2013 when it surpassed Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Internet Explorer (now Microsoft Edge). For years, we have continued to mock Google Chrome’s Ram hungry nature as a system hog, and yet, we all still used it.

For the past 10 years there have been ample alternative browsers available, yet there has always been something about Google Chrome’s brilliant integration, ease of use and consistency that has kept it as the reliable browser on every computer. When speaking about replacing Chrome with another browser, in this case Opera GX, it is not because of a shortcoming on Chrome’s behalf, but instead, other browsers getting a lot better.

What Is Opera GX?

Opera has been making browsers since 1994 and steadily been making some of the best browsers we have seen in a long time. Opera supplied browsers for virtually every modern-day platform and has a range of different browsers for different use cases. GX is one of the latest Opera offerings that, at its core, is meant to target gamers. That’s right, gamers. This may have been a disconnect from the actual public opinion, or just poor timing on Opera’s behalf.

In recent years, the “gaming” term has been somewhat exploited to put higher price tags on mediocre products, just look at gaming chairs versus traditional office chairs and the picture becomes clear. On hearing that this new browser was for gamers, most of the community scoffed and passed it off as another mediocre “gaming” product. After a few months of testing Opera GX and its features, the community verdict is out. Opera GX is a fantastic browser.

What Makes Opera GX Better?

When comparing browsers at this level, being as good will never be able to justify a switch over. To justify switching from the gold standard, Google Chrome, Opera needs to do everything that Chrome does, and more. That is exactly what Opera GX has achieved. So, what features do Opera GX have that makes it potentially superior.

  • Performance limit – Opera GX is built on chromium, just like Google Chrome, extending the jokes of being a resource hog to GX as well. To battle this, Opera GX has a great feature with which you can hard limit CPU, RAM and network usage. Gone are the days of a game or other work lagging because of too many tabs being open in your browser. As soon as performance starts to take a dip, just toggle the resource limiter.
  • Integration – Google Chrome has great cross-platform integration and so does Opera GX, but GX takes it to the next level. Full integration with Twitch, Discord, Spotify, Deezer and many more applications. This allows you to have an all-encompassing entertainment experience in one place and needing only one app’s worth of resources.
  • VPN and Adblock – The built-in VPN that comes with Opera GX may not be the best VPN in the business, but as far as a free VPN goes, it is very impressive. The VPN and adblock features are both fully customizable and easily enabled whenever you may want to try some content from a different region.

Opera GX Drawbacks

Many have criticized Opera GX for leaning too heavily into the “gaming” sphere when it comes to design and admittedly, the standard color scheme can be a bit much for most normal users. This is easily addressable as Opera GX is fully customizable and can even sync with your Corsair iCue or Razer Synapse software.

If you consume a lot of content in the form of music, https://mobilebetting.kiwi/ action and streams or just want an interesting and still very capable change to Google Chrome, Opera GX is a solid contender.
