Repaint the walls

First of all, one of the best ways to liven up your house is with a fresh coat of paint. Whether you get some local painting services to do it for you, or you get the paint roller out yourself is up to you.

What colour you choose can really change how you want your home to feel. Bright colours such as yellows and oranges can boost your mood, whereas natural colours such as greens and blues can give provide calming effects. But, there isn’t anything wrong with getting it repainted in the same white. It will look fresh and more inviting before.

Remember, if you want it to be professionally done, there are a lot of highly qualified painters in Perth ready to give your home the fresh coat it deserves.

Put up a large painting

Sometimes the best way to fill up an empty space is to hang a large painting. There are so many beautiful paintings available online nowadays, in almost any style you could wish for. You could also support local artists and buy them directly at art galleries, exhibitions, and markets.

Some great places to hang a large painting is behind the bed or couch, or above the fireplace, if you have one. A single large painting on a wall can really make a room feel inviting and lively.

Paint an accent wall

If you want to have a cleaner look, without the fuss of hanging anything up, an accent wall might do the trick. If most of the walls are a neutral colour such as white, or off white, you can get away with almost any colour. Depending on how you want the room to feel, it can be really striking by painting on a bold colour such as a deep orange or blue.

Hang some wall mounted shelving

Are you a book worm, or like little trinkets and doodads? A great way to utilise empty wall space is by installing some wall-mounted shelving or floating shelves that have a modern and clean look. This option works great to decorate and make your home feel warm and welcoming. It doesn’t require too much work – there are some great shelves available online to purchase, or if you or your partner are handy with woodwork, make your own. Mounting a bookshelf not only looks good, but it’s also a handy place to store your books.

Why not add a Gallery wall

If you have a large collection of paintings or pictures that need a place, then collage them together as a gallery wall. There are an array of patterns and styles you can place them in; a grid pattern for a sleek look, or a random yet uniform way for a sense of fun and play. There aren’t any right or wrong answers as to what paintings or pictures go together. Whatever you think looks good and fits your aesthetic works.

Get some texture into your artwork

Sometimes a painting or image isn’t quite what you need, and needs a little extra character. Take it a step further and get some textured abstract artwork. This could be anything from art made with wool, to art made with shells or bits of scrap. There’s something pleasing about hanging an artwork that is just daring you to touch it.

Brighten you home with some mirrors

Another simple and effective way to give some interest to your walls is by hanging up small mirrors. There is no limit to what you can do! A great way to utilise them is by adding them to the gallery wall to invite extra colour from the room, giving it a unique look. Make sure the mirrors are smaller or the same size as the rest of the frames, as they can draw attention away from the art if they’re too noticeable.

Do your own paintings

Painting your own artwork can be an exciting and fun way to add a personal touch to your home. Even if you believe you don’t have an artistic touch, you can still create some beautiful paintings just by doing something abstract or using block shapes. All you need is a canvas, some acrylic paints and a paintbrush. This is a cheap and effective way to make your home feel homely. You don’t even need a frame, just use a small nail to hang it up on the wall. You can get your inspiration online by searching for painting ideas in a style you like and just give it a go!

Mount your television

The best way to watch tv is on a mounted tv. Not only can you choose the exact height you want, but it can also look clean and modern. If you or someone you know is handy, you can run the wires through the wall and into the cabinet below for any consoles, or players you may use. Almost any flatscreen tv looks better sitting on the wall and can even look like a framed picture if you set it with wallpaper.

Wall-mounted stuffed animal heads

Perhaps this is a little bit too extra for some people, but if you’re into fun and interesting decorations, there are some cute stuffed animal heads that you can mount on the wall. It’s not as scary as you may think, there is a range of dinosaurs and different animals to pick from. Think, cute stuffed animals, rather than a scary haunted house feel. They’re a cute way to create interest and use up wall space if they’re to your taste.

Neon signs

Speaking of extra, how about a neon sign. The great thing about them is that they look striking both during the day and at night. Online retailers have an array of signs to pick from that you’re sure to like.

Paint a mural

Sometimes you don’t need to hang anything on a wall. Create a beautiful feature wall by painting a mural! Murals are a beautiful and stunning way to fill up wall space, they cover the whole wall and create interest the whole way along. There are some simple yet effective mural designs anyone who can hold a paintbrush will be able to paint.
