Put-In-Bay is a popular resort community on South Bass Island in Lake Erie, but it is generally used to mention the entire island. Since the mid-1800s, this village is regarded as the core of tourism in the Lake Erie Islands, with its numerous taverns, wineries, restaurants, attractions, and resorts.

Regularly referred to as the “Key West of the North,” this community features breathtaking water, numerous historical sites, and spirited entertainment venues. Most visit the island for a day trip riding one of the two ferryboat companies that service the island. More and more people are now making the island a multi-day adventure opting to spend time at one of the island’s popular resort hotels. Put-in-Bay has also become popular with corporate groups looking for a lively, fun place to hold meetings.

Traveling to Put-In-Bay

One of the common ways to get to Put-in-Bay is by one of the two Put-In-Bay ferries which provide services to the island. The Jet Express Ferry arrives in the downtown area, while the Miller Ferry landing requires a bus or taxi to bring you to the village. For more specific information on schedules and tariffs, please visit the individual ferry boat websites. You can also opt to get there by private boat, and there are numerous marinas for dockage.

 Another popular option is through the Put-In-Bay airport, which provides private pilots a well-maintained runway. It also the base to Griffing Flying 

Lodging Accommodations At Put-in-Bay

The island offers a comprehensive array of hotels and resorts, each having various room types and amenities. Some of the popular hotels at Put-in-Bay include;

The Edgewater Hotel. Located on the main strip across from the park and waterfront, this hotel offers the downtown area’s closest experience. It features hotel rooms that can sleep up to 4 people and group and family suites that sleep up to 6 people.

Bay Lodging Resort: This lodge is located in a quiet residential neighborhood. The hotel has well-furnished rooms that can sleep between 2 to 10 people.

Put-In-Bay Resort: This is the largest and most modern resort on the island. The resort has a wide variety of room types that can hold 2 to 12 people. Their new four bedrooms three bathroom villas are the most sought-after lodging on the island. The pool features a swim-up bar & a large jacuzzi.

Transportation around the island

Once you have arrived on South Bass Island, there are various transportation options, including taxis, buses, and more. The most popular choice is Put-in-Bay Golf Cart Rentals. They can be rented hourly, daily, or overnight, and for multiple days at a time. Coops Cabs, a taxi service, operates island-wide, and there are buses that move from downtown to the ferryboat landing on the other side of the island.

Things to do

There is an endless number of things to do in Put-In-Bay, and they can be as mild as a stroll through the village. Aquatics, hiking, sailing, moped rentals, and biking are among the most convenient things. Jet Ski Rentals and Parasailing are also popular attractions. Visiting the Perry International Peace Memorial, the splendid state park, and lakeside pebble beaches are fun family activities. You can use your time relaxing at the heated pools and swim-up bars. You can opt to rent a boat or Kayak and enjoy the landscape of the island from a boater’s perspective.

There are a lot of unique experiences and family activities here. Once it gets close to dinnertime, check out the local restaurants, there are plenty of options, including some with waterfront views. There is a great deal of Put-in-Bay Information that can assist you in planning a spectacular vacation. The island opens for tourism in early April and concludes the season with a fun Halloween Weekend Costume party.
