Reap the gains of owning a car through any of these channels

In today’s economy we know every buck counts. However, it might seem to you that opportunities to make that extra cash aren’t easy to come by. What if we told you your very own money machine is simply sitting around in your home unused? That’s right, your car opens up many casual avenues to make some easy money.

Table of Contents

  • 1. Offer Your Car Up for Advertising
  • 2. Rent Out Your Car Space
  • 3. Join the Ridesharing Market
  • 4. Rent Your Car
  • 5. Deliver Food or Groceries

1. Offer Your Car Up for Advertising

While car advertising has been around long enough, not many have taken to it quite as easily. The common concern being that your car runs the risk of being defaced. However, most cars that take up listing your cars will take care of the application and removal. The best part about this option is that you don’t have to alter your schedule to do this.

You can drive around with a simple sticker and earn money while at it, the listing company will find an advertiser in your location. Companies like Ads on Cars will pay you anywhere from $25 for a small placement to $250 for a larger one every month. You can also avail a FREE 7-day trial and wait until you find the advertiser for you. There are car dealers such as Kiwi cash for cars that pays for car advertising.

2. Rent Out Your Car Space

This option doesn’t even involve your car. In the shared economy even having a parking space can earn you some big bucks. If you keep busy and have extra space in your driveway or garage, you can simply rent it out, sit back and make bank. Especially in major cities like Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, many people are always looking for parking spots.

This is a great option if you don’t have a car but have one assigned in your apartment building or work. Companies like Parkable, Anyspace and Sharedspace will give you all the information you need. They also make it extremely easy for you to list your space, most often you can simply do it with a tap of a finger. Most companies also charge a minimal listing fee.

3. Join the Ridesharing Market

Perhaps the option that comes up the most in the conversation about making money with your car is in fact ridesharing. If you have some down time or don’t mind an extra passenger on your drives, this option is perfectly fine for you. You can usually set your own hours and get support whenever you need it. The payments are made on a weekly basis for your convenience.

You will have to pass a background check, have a valid driver’s license, and have insurance on your car most likely. The options you have are practically endless – from the ever-popular Uber with a presence in over 13 cities in New Zealand to the relatively new entrants like Zoomy and Ola. All these providers make it easy for you to sign up and will provide you necessary guidelines to ensure a smooth drive.

4. Rent Your Car

Now here’s an option to make some money off your car, without doing literally anything. Perhaps you live close enough to public transport or prefer to use the bike to run your errands. Either way if you own a car that is most likely simply sitting in your driveway unused you have the option of renting out your car. You can also do this when you are going overseas for a certain period.

Peer-to-peer sharing portals like My Car Your Rental make it incredibly easy for you to earn even while you are away. They also offer you insurance during the time your car is driven by someone else without affecting your private insurance. They also pre-screen all renters and leave you in charge, if you are not comfortable with renting to someone or during a certain time, you don’t have to.

5. Deliver Food or Groceries

This is the other popular option in the business of cars. With the boom of the gig economy, food and grocery delivery is very accessible to you especially taking off during the pandemic. While we have all become dependent on our favourite food delivery apps, they also serve as avenues to make some money on the side. As you already know most of these platforms also cater to convenience and alcohol delivery.

You just must devote a few hours during the day to earn some extra money. Companies like DoorDash and UberEats allow you to sign up online in no time. Even if you have any other vehicle like a motorcycle, you can make use of it to get paid. They not only offer base pay but also have several promotions like peak pay and quests to supplement your income.

In today’s market with rising petrol prices, the upkeep of a car or any vehicle in fact can be quite expensive. Add to that repairs and maintenance and you are in the red. There are however some options your beloved car will open in terms of earning some extra money. You have a lot of choices when it comes to this. While the earning potential is great, what seals the deal is the convenience and flexibility. So, make your pick and drive to profits today!
