The newest series of Apple Watch stands to release in September of this year, alongside the new Apple iPhone 15. Just like with the Apple Watch 8, the new Apple Watch this year will not feature many changes or updates.
Apart from a new chipset in the watch, giving it marginally better speed and performance, there are currently no leaks about new features or design changes. The new chip could also be used to reduce battery usage and increase the amount of time you can use the Apple Watch 9 compared to previous models.
New colour
Some credible leaks have suggested a new pink colour could be launched for the new Apple Watch Series 9. This pink colour would show itself on the aluminium case that the Watch is made out of. It’s going to be a different colour than the well known Rose Gold colour.
Apple uses pink more often such as in earlier designs of the iPad and iPad mini. It’s likely going to be a subtle shade of light pink rather than a bright pink. The Apple Watch Ultra will not be coming in a pink colour.
New Apple Watch strap
Apple Watch straps have always been one of the major design features of the Watch. It’s the one thing that can be changed about the design, given that the watch itself has shared the same design for years now. And this year an exciting rumour has leaked that a new strap is coming for the Series 9 watch.
According to patent data it’s going to be a woven fabric band with a magnetic closure. We have not seen something like this before on the Apple Watch. There’s of course the famous Milanese strap with a magnetic buckle, or more modern leather straps that feature an inbuilt magnet as well.
The woven straps so far have all featured a continuous loop design or have velcro closures. This could be a great step towards a more sophisticated strap made out of nylon: stylish and comfortable.
Release date
The new Apple Watch Series 9 stands to release later in September of 2023. It launches alongside the new iPhone 15 series. Although rumours of the new iPhone often overshadow the rumours about the new Apple Watch, we’re disappointed with the lack of new features this year.
Apple Watch Ultra
The Apple Watch Ultra was introduced in 2022 and was a revolutionary new watch in Apple’s lineup. This watch was loaded with features and focussed on an outdoor audience. The success of the Apple Watch Ultra makes it likely that a new version will be returning again to store shelves in Sept. 2023.
