Plan an AI video as individual shots with a defined subject, action and camera movement. Match each shot to the selected model’s supported inputs, review the full motion sequence and assemble accepted clips in an editor. Check continuity, captions, audio and the final crop before publishing the finished video.

A short AI-generated clip is easier to direct when it has one clear job. Show a product detail, establish a setting or connect two scenes. Asking one generation to introduce a subject, perform several actions and deliver a finished advertisement makes it harder to diagnose what went wrong when the result misses the brief.

For creators and small businesses, a shot plan turns an idea into a set of manageable decisions. It also helps keep generation, editing and publishing separate. You can evaluate each clip against its intended purpose before spending time on captions, music and final exports.

Start with the finished video’s message

Write the message in one sentence. An illustrative launch video for a reusable bottle might show that it fits naturally into an outdoor routine. That message suggests a setting, a subject and a small number of actions. It does not require every product feature to appear in the same clip.

Decide where the final video will be watched. Record the aspect ratio, intended duration and whether viewers are likely to watch without sound. These choices affect framing and editing. Leave space for captions if they will be added later, rather than hoping the generated composition happens to provide it.

Avoid unsupported demonstrations. If the video shows a product performing a specific function, compare that portrayal with approved product information. A visually convincing generated sequence is not evidence that a product can do what the scene implies. Use real footage where accuracy depends on a physical demonstration.

Divide the idea into individual shots

Give each shot a subject, an action and a camera instruction. “One bottle on a picnic table; the camera moves slowly closer; trees remain softly out of focus” is easier to evaluate than a paragraph containing several scene changes. Keep the scene simple enough that a reviewer can identify the intended action immediately.

As an example, a 15-second edit could use three clips of roughly 5 seconds each: an establishing view, a close detail and a closing composition with space for text. These durations describe an editing plan, not a promise that a particular model can generate every requested length. Adapt the plan to the chosen model’s documented options.

Number the shots and preserve their purpose. If the second clip is meant to show the carrying loop, a beautiful landscape does not satisfy that requirement. A shot list prevents the production from drifting toward whichever outputs happen to look most impressive.

Match the generation method to the scene

Text-to-video can be useful when exploring an original scene from a written description. A workflow using a reference image may be more appropriate when the starting composition matters. The available controls depend on the model, so check supported inputs and settings before preparing a large batch.

Handle continuity in the edit

Across several shots, compare the subject’s appearance, lighting and background. If the same product looks different in each scene, viewers may perceive an unintentional change. Use approved references where the selected workflow supports them, and simplify the shot plan when continuity proves difficult.

Add captions and precise brand lettering in an editing tool where you can control spelling, positioning and timing. Treat generated text as something to inspect, not an automatically correct part of the scene. Check that captions remain readable after the final crop and do not cover the important action.

Keep audio decisions explicit. Some workflows create sound with the video and others require audio later. Review any generated speech or music before publishing, and use assets you are authorized to use. A silent draft should not become an unexpected audio experience during export.

Budget for usable clips

Record which generations became part of the final edit. If an illustrative trial creates 8 clips and uses 4, half of the generated clips contributed to the deliverable. That number helps explain the trial’s cost; it is not a benchmark for AI video production.

Include editing and review time in the production record. Repeatedly changing an unclear brief can cost more time than the generation itself. Before ordering another batch, identify whether the failure concerns the shot description, the model’s controls, continuity or the editing plan.
