There’s a difference between living and living healthy. What dictates this difference are the habits we exhibit every day. Some people wake up early while others sleep a little later than usual. You may think that something like this wouldn’t affect your life, but that’s not always the case. If you want to live a healthier lifestyle, here are a few habits to help get you started.

Eat Right

Eating right is a great healthy habit to learn. Your diet plays an important role in how you feel every day and noticing positive changes in how you feel can encourage you to investigate more tips to make healthy habits stick long term. You’d be shocked to find out how many people eat a poor, imbalanced and unhealthy diet. Eating the occasional bag of chips, handful of candy and drinking a sugary drink occasionally, is fine. What’s not okay is when it becomes a staple in your diet. This type of food is loaded with saturated and trans-fat, excessive amounts of sugar and sodium and hundreds of empty calories. In addition to adding unwanted pounds, eating an unhealthy diet can lead to chronic medical issues later in life. Here’s a brief list of what a poor diet can cause:

  • Obesity
  • Tooth decay
  • Diabetes
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Increased risk of a stroke
  • Gallbladder disease
  • High blood pressure
  • Various cancers, like breast, prostate and colon cancer

Proper nutrition is a great way to prevent heart disease too, which is a common hereditary disease. Since some people have a genetic predisposition to certain medical issues, using food as preventative medicine can help delay or completely derail the onset of the disease. If you’ve been having more than an occasional cheat day, it’s still possible to start over. First, swap out junk food with nutrient-rich vegetables. Next, ditch the sugary drinks for fruit-infused water. This not only tastes better, but it’s also better for you.

Exercise Daily

While eating a healthy diet is a step in the right direction, you also need to exercise as well. From yoga and Pilates to running on a treadmill and lifting weights, exercising doesn’t need to be boring. If you are just starting out or are above what your average weight should be, it’s best to start off slow. Focus on light jogging and use five-pound weights. Once you increase stamina and endurance, you can gradually increase the intensity and duration of your workouts.

If you’re not sure where to start, you should consider riding an e-bike. An e-bike is almost identical to a normal bike except it has a small engine installed. This engine allows you to control the amount of propulsion. You can get one of these bikes from online or your local e-bike shop. As you’re shopping, you may want to consider adding a few accessories to the cart as well, especially a second battery. It’s important to always have an extra battery just in case the one currently installed dies on you.

Keep Yourself Hydrated

Staying hydrated is another healthy habit to practice. Drinking at least eight cups of water each day helps filter out all the waste your body while replenishing your electrolytes lost while exercising. Proper hydration can also improve your complexion as well.
