The kitchen is arguably the busiest place in the house, but most homes don’t have it optimized for efficiency. The quickest way to get your kitchen up to speed is to have it upgraded with a reputable company like JVM Kitchen Design. From there, you can try these five hacks that should work for you, rather than against you.

Get in the Zone

Most experts stress the importance of having an optimized work triangle. The work triangle is the refrigerator, the stove or cooktop, and the sink. These three should be spaced reasonably enough that you don’t have to travel far to get to one of them. Prepping and cooking will then be minimal since you don’t have to waste so much time walking.

Try Drawers Instead of Doors

Base cabinets can be changed into drawers for easy access. More often than not, you’d have to bend and reach to get those items on the back. However, a drawer lays it out in a way that you can take anything without disturbing the other utensils or ingredients.

Designate a Prep and Cleaning Spot

Most cooks know that prepping and throwing away waste takes a significant amount of time. Plus, there’s the cleaning to be done after the food is gone. Minimizing movement is key to becoming more efficient in the kitchen. As such, you should group prep materials like mixing bowls, boards, and knives under your work area, and designate a cleaning zone for the dishware and sink.

Not Too High or Too Low

A countertop should be made level to your height. Vary the surface to find the most comfortable, and raise appliances to your chest or counter height so you won’t have to bend when checking food.

Don’t Forget Lighting

Last but not least, don’t forget what optimized lighting can do for you. The better you can see, the less eyestrain you experience. Aside from increasing visibility, sufficient lighting can also enhance comfort and reduce hazards. Make it a point to illuminate the primary workspace.
