Jack Byrd III has transformed the security landscape in Tennessee through innovative protocols at Solaren Risk Management. Drawing from his extensive law enforcement background, Byrd has implemented systematic approaches that blend traditional security expertise with technological advancement, setting new standards for the industry.
Law Enforcement Foundation Drives Security Innovation
Beginning his career at 19 as a paid intern with the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, Byrd quickly rose to a leadership position, earning promotion to corporal within his first year. His background in law enforcement provided critical insights that now shape Solaren’s approach to security protocols. “He knows the industry. He still does. He’s definitely a professional when it comes to security. He knows the ins and outs of the law and the regulations and who to talk to about what,” a representative of Solaren Risk Management explains.
This expertise has allowed Byrd to develop security protocols that emphasize clear chain-of-command structures and effective communication systems. “Chain of command is definitely something that we try to convey,” the representative notes. “So new hires really quickly rather than reach out to or try to reach out to the CEO directly about any problem, obviously he’s not going to answer the average contractor’s questions, and so they have to understand that when they’re on the field, if they have an issue, they talk to their supervisor.”
Technological Integration Enhances Security Operations
Byrd has championed the integration of technology into Solaren’s security protocols, particularly mobile-based communication systems. “We moved it over to a mobile-based platform that we use for our phone system,” the representative states. “Everything that we use for our phone and communication and all that stuff is mobile based because all of our operations team is out in the field almost all the time.”
One of Byrd’s most significant technological innovations has been the partnership with LiveView Technologies. “They create these mobile surveillance trailers that you can deploy quickly and they’re solar powered,” explains the representative. “A lot of our clients have loved having that option because they may have an expansive parking lot and you don’t either want to pay for a guard to be out there patrolling it, or you just don’t have that kind of concept in your mind.”
Despite embracing technological solutions, Byrd maintains a careful balance between automation and human expertise. “A lot of people think that it takes away from the physical security aspect, but it really doesn’t. If anything, it supplements it,” the representative emphasizes. “The human eye is going to recognize things and be able to process things better than AI ever will.”
Comprehensive Training Protocols Transform Security Personnel
At the core of Byrd’s security revolution is a commitment to thorough training protocols. “We regularly hold in-person courses,” the representative shares. “Anytime we hire a bunch of people for unarmed, for example, we invite them all to come out to a class.”
These training protocols extend beyond basic certification to include specialized skills. “We have regular report writing classes, because not everybody knows how to write a report. Not everybody knows what categories on their report mean,” the representative explains. This comprehensive approach includes tactical training like the “Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) course, which is a three-day course talking about how to use tourniquets, how to do CPR, all that kind of stuff.”
This investment in training has delivered measurable results in real-world situations. The representative shares a striking example: “One of our guards, a guy ran up to him while he was working at one of the bars; he was on the street doing ID checks. A guy ran up to him, he had been stabbed in the arm. And this officer that we had applied a tourniquet… So, the fact that he had that know-how, and he was trained in that capacity, and he actually used that knowledge in the field to help save a life.”
Systematic Management Protocols Drive Growth
Byrd has instituted comprehensive management protocols that have enabled Solaren to scale successfully. “We have one platform that we use where we keep track of all the documents for our contractors, all of the time sheets, the schedules, everything all in one app,” the representative notes. This systematic approach has supported the company’s growth from a small startup to a regional security leader with hundreds of contractors.
These management protocols include a recognition system that rewards excellence. “At the end of the year, we have a Christmas party… If somebody based on those performance evaluations throughout the year has just done an exceptional job, they’ll get an award, which usually correlates with some kind of pay boost,” the representative shares.
Jack Byrd’s revolution in security protocols at Solaren Risk Management reflects his vision of integrating law enforcement expertise with innovative technology while maintaining a strong focus on human development. This balanced approach has positioned Solaren as a leader in the security industry across the southeastern United States, demonstrating how thoughtful protocol design can transform security operations in the modern era.
