It’s easy to get overwhelmed by the household clutter regardless if you live on your own or with kids. We all want to maintain and keep our homes clean and clutter-free, but it takes a lot of time and effort to get all the work done. Sometimes, when you look around your home, you feel paralyzed by the mess and you just don’t know where to begin. This is when a house cleaning routine can come in handy.

We cannot emphasize enough how important it is to have a good house cleaning routine in place. It doesn’t just help make your home look welcoming and pleasing in the eyes, it can also give you a sense of accomplishment and a feeling of fulfillment knowing that you are on top of your mess.

If you don’t have a house cleaning routine, you’re probably missing out on a lot of quality time you should be spending with your family. Learn to establish a routine that works for you and not one that works you. (Read that again!)

In this article, we’ll guide you through a step-by-step process on how you can build a cleaning routine. Get your pen and paper ready, and let’s get into it.

Building the Routine

Building a house cleaning routine without an actual planning is like going to war without weapons. Before you jump into creating a schedule you think would work for you and your home, you have to take the time to look around the house, list down the tasks, prepare the tools, and so on. As experts in the cleaning industry, we’ve put together a list that can guide you on how to build an effective house cleaning services:

1.  Assess the Mess.

You wouldn’t know how much work is needed unless you check and assess the mess in your house. Look around and identify areas that need cleaning. This will also help you strategize as you build a routine and schedule tasks.

2.  Make a Checklist of the Specific Areas and things you Need to Clean.

Create a list of areas and tasks you need to clean to avoid missing out on anything in your household.  Start by writing down tasks, room by room in a checklist format. You may do it on a piece of paper, a board, or on your phone—whichever would work best for you.

3.  Combine Similar Tasks.

By the time you finish going around the house, you probably have a long list of tasks already. Now don’t get overwhelmed just yet! Make things lighter and manageable by grouping similar tasks or things you can do at once. For example, cleaning your drawers and decluttering clothes. Experts suggest that everything should be pulled out of the closet when decluttering clothes, this can also allow you time to clean your drawers while nothing’s in it.

4.  Categorize Tasks by Day, Week, and Month.

Before you feel paralyzed just by staring at your long checklist of tasks, remember that you are not supposed to do all that in one day nor every day. Categorize them by day, week, and month. Low-effort tasks should be done on a daily basis, medium-effort chores once a week, and heavier ones monthly.

On a daily level, stick to doing the dishes, picking up things on the floor, and wiping down    surfaces. Once a week tackle dusting, vacuuming, and other medium-effort tasks. Deep cleaning and organizing rooms can be done once a month.

5.  Create a Schedule with Reminders on.

Now that you have the tasks written and grouped, it’s time to schedule and block out time in your calendar to actually do the cleaning. You can also set an alarm or reminders so you won’t skip on the routine.

6.  Prepare all the Cleaning Products.

Instead of wasting time looking for the products and tools that you will be needing every time you clean, collect and stock them altogether in one place. Everyone in the household should also know where these things are stored so it’s easy to grab them when needed.

7.  Delegate Tasks to Other Family Members.

In doing house work, two hands are always better than one. The cleaning tasks may seem heavy, but everything will be lighter when done altogether as a family. Designate rooms or certain tasks to each person in the household as a way to split up the work. Kids can also get tasks appropriate to their age.

There you have it! We hope these tips will help you start an effective and productive house cleaning routine, so you can spend time on more important things. Don’t forget to also relax and rest. Don’t be too harsh on yourself and listen to your body. If you feel like you can’t do the work, you can always get professional cleaning services.
