Avid golfer Kunal Puri ofTexas recently discussed why golf is an ideal sport for kids

Houston is home to many award-winning golf courses, but like in most areas, there are far more adults on the links than kids. Kunal Puri of Houston explained that many parents are unaware of the many benefits golf can offer children. He recently discussed five reasons why golf is an ideal sport for kids.

It’s a Low-Impact Sport

Many parents worry about injuries when their kids play high-impact sports like football and soccer. That’s because more than 2.6 million kids annually visit the emergency room due to sports injuries.

Kunal Puri of Texas explained golf is a non-contact, low-impact sport with a much lower risk of injury. When a child does experience an injury while golfing, it is typically minor. Golf is an excellent way for children to get physical exercise and mental stimulation without putting themselves at risk of significant injury.

Golf Gets Kids Outside

Many kids opt for video games or smartphones over the outdoors. Golf is an exciting and competitive way to get kids to play outside. The sunshine, fresh air, and natural beauty of a golf course can boost a child’s mood while improving cognitive development. Outdoor play has also been linked to superior socialization, an increased attention span, and better vision.

Kunal Puri of Houston explained that once kids start playing golf, they may notice they prefer being outside rather than indoors on the phone, tablet, or computer.

Golf Teaches Manners

Golf is a relatively formal sport that has a long list of spoken and unspoken rules. Golf etiquette involves remaining calm and being polite with fellow players. Temper tantrums and trash-talking are not permitted on the golf course.

The etiquette kids learn on the golf course transfers over to other areas of their lives, as they learn to manage emotions and remain calm under stress.

Golf Promotes Self Confidence

Kunal Puri of Texas explained that golf is a difficult sport that requires dedicated practice to see improvement. The sport teaches kids the importance of remaining persistent when striving towards goals. The self-confidence a kid gains, when they achieve goals in golf, follows them to school, home, and other areas of life. These achievements also motivate them to continue playing the sport.

It’s an Individual and Team Sport

One of the most unique characteristics of golf is that it can be an individual or team sport. Joining a local golf team can help kids create lasting friendships and learn the importance of working together toward a common goal. Kids can also achieve their personal goals even if their golf team doesn’t take home the trophy.

Golf Enthusiast Kunal Puri of Houston

Kunal Puri is an avid golfer who loves playing the sport and watching it live or on television. He plays in numerous annual charity golf events to help underprivileged children and other causes. He believes all kids can benefit from the physical activity and life lessons golf teaches.
