Happy Gilmore 2 Budget: A Record-Breaking Production Journey

The New Jersey Motion Picture and Television Commission said Netflix’s Happy Gilmore 2 logged $152.5 million in qualified production spending during 64 days of filming across the state, making the Adam Sandler sequel the highest-spending production in New Jersey since the state reinstated its film tax credit program in 2018. The film premiered on Netflix in July 2025, nearly 30 years after the original Happy Gilmore (Happy Gilmore 2 Budget).

The Netflix Adam Sandler Happy Gilmore 2 production spending figure reflects qualified in-state expenditures reported by the commission, not a full global budget total. State officials said the production averaged about $2.3 million per filming day, with spending tied to lodging, extras, locations, crews, vendors and other local services.

Filming reached dozens of New Jersey communities

According to the NJEDA, Happy Gilmore 2 filmed in 31 municipalities across nine counties, using a mix of golf courses, residential properties, airports, schools and other recognizable New Jersey locations. The exterior of Happy Gilmore’s home was filmed at a private home in Irvington, while interior scenes were shot at a private home in Belleville.

New Jersey golf locations featured in the production included Beacon Hill Country Club in Atlantic Highlands, Fiddler’s Elbow in Bedminster, Forest Hill Field Club in Bloomfield, Closter Golf Center, Alpine Country Club in Demarest, Farmview Golf Center in Hackettstown, Rockleigh Golf Course, Essex Golf Center in Roseland and Montclair Golf Club in West Orange. Other notable sites included Newark Liberty International Airport, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Pleasantdale Chateau in West Orange and the former Essex County Isolation Hospital in Belleville.

Netflix separately said the production used 45 locations across the Garden State during its three-month shoot, including Ideal Beach in Middletown and the Hackensack Performing Arts Center. The company said the film hired more than 400 New Jersey crew members, nearly 3,000 extras and more than 400 local vendors.

Local spending included extras, hotels and vendors

The commission reported that Happy Gilmore 2 spent $6.4 million on hiring extras and $1.2 million on lodging. Those categories underscore how major Netflix original movies can create short-term business for hotels, casting operations, food service providers, transportation companies and other local suppliers during production windows.

The sequel’s footprint also arrives as New Jersey continues to promote itself as a film and television production hub. NJEDA said overall in-state production spending reached $833 million in 2024, with 556 productions filming in New Jersey and hiring more than 30,000 crew members.

Part of Netflix’s broader New Jersey expansion

The Happy Gilmore 2 spending announcement also ties into Netflix’s larger New Jersey strategy. Netflix has broken ground on its planned Fort Monmouth production facility, a project the company describes as a $1 billion investment on more than 292 acres with 12 sound stages and nearly 500,000 square feet of production space. State officials have positioned the production as a high-profile example of how tax incentives, local crews and diverse filming locations are attracting studio projects. For Netflix, Happy Gilmore 2 adds another New Jersey-shot title to a growing slate that has included Nonnas, The Irishman and several upcoming film and television projects.
