Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle delivered a record-setting anime debut during its September 12–14, 2025 expansion, with a reported $132.1 million worldwide weekend. Its estimated $70 million opening in the United States and Canada helped turn the Crunchyroll and Sony release into a major theatrical event. Understanding those numbers means separating its North American launch from its earlier Japanese opening.

What does the $132.1 million opening represent?

The $132.1 million figure describes the reported worldwide weekend as Infinity Castle expanded across North America and international markets in September 2025. It is not the film’s Japanese opening or its lifetime worldwide earnings. Japan had already welcomed the movie on July 18, nearly two months before its North American release.

That distinction matters when comparing Demon Slayer Infinity Castle box office reports. A film released in stages can have several territory-specific opening weekends, while its cumulative total keeps growing between launches. Treating every headline number as the same measurement can make a successful release surprisingly difficult to follow.

A North American record with a clear benchmark

The estimated $70 million debut surpassed Pokémon: The First Movie’s $31 million North American opening from 1999. Infinity Castle also took first place ahead of The Conjuring: Last Rites, making the achievement more than a record within anime alone: it led the overall weekend chart.

The comparison shows the scale of the launch without requiring predictions about its eventual finish. Opening weekends measure the initial rush, not the full theatrical run. Even so, this debut established a substantial new benchmark for anime releases in North America.

How did Infinity Castle perform in Japan?

The Demon Slayer Infinity Castle box office in Japan reached approximately ¥5.52 billion over July 18–20, 2025, from 3,843,613 admissions. Including the Monday holiday brought its four-day earnings to approximately ¥7.32 billion and attendance to 5,164,348, according to the franchise’s official announcement. Those are separate reporting periods, not competing versions of one result.

The daily figures also reveal sustained momentum through that first weekend. Sunday generated approximately ¥2.04 billion, above Friday’s roughly ¥1.65 billion. Japan’s opening therefore offers important context for the later international headlines, rather than being part of a simultaneous global launch.

Reading the numbers without mixing them up

For a useful Demon Slayer box office comparison, check three details before drawing conclusions:

  • Territory: Does the figure cover Japan, the United States and Canada, or worldwide markets?
  • Time period: Is it a three-day opening, a holiday-inclusive total, or cumulative earnings?
  • Reporting status: Is the amount an initial estimate or a subsequently confirmed result?

These checks keep opening-weekend records distinct from lifetime milestones. The takeaway is straightforward: Infinity Castle’s September expansion produced a remarkable reported weekend, while its Japanese debut tells a separate, equally important chapter of the release story.
