Storage cards such as microSD or SD cards are great for allowing you to store more photos, videos and documents. Make your storage card last longer with these 4 helpful tips.

Unmount or Eject First Before Removing

Micro sd cards and similar external storage devices can be easily damaged if you just take them out without ejecting or unmounting. If you want your 128gb sandisk micro sd card to last longer then you will have to follow a small but important procedure.

Most smartphones, computers and cameras will have you ‘prepare’ a card for extraction in-software so that the files inside won’t get damaged.

Handle Carefully

SD cards are about the size of a SIM card and are just as thin. They’re somewhat delicate and can break easily with enough force.

That said, you should be mindful of the amount of force you use when handling an SD card. The more gentle you are, the better as to not damage the physical storage device.

Put the Card in a Case or Storage

For microsd cards that will spend a lot of time outside a device, it’s recommended that you have a plastic storage that can store it. This way, you can find the SanDisk 64gb sd card for your iPhone without too much trouble if you happen to misplace it.

Any kind of small case with an enclosing mechanism will do.

Back Up Contents Regularly

All storage devices, including sd cards and microsd eventually reach the end of their life. This depends on how often they’re used- a sandisk 16gb sd card can hold a lot of smartphone photos and videos, which should be backed up to the cloud or another external storage for safekeeping.

Aim for a full backup once every 6 months or so for peace of mind. You can transfer the contents to a computer or a traditional SSD.
