New York is well-known for having some of the best restaurants globally. From fine dining to inexpensive ethnic eats, New Yorkers can eat their way around the globe by walking a few blocks on any given street. During his illustrious career, Dr. Oscar John Ma has had his fair share of meals at great restaurants in New York. After a lifetime of tasting, his favorites are narrowed down to a select few worthy of their own article. If you’re a foodie, these are the top restaurants in NYC, according to John Ma

Quick Eats

If you’re in a hurry, these spots provide a quick meal. However, don’t be fooled by the short wait – these places are anything but short on flavor.

Lombardis

If you’re interested in trying a traditional New York-style pizza, but you don’t want to deal with the hassle of ordering from some hipster food truck, it’s time for you to walk into Lombardi’s on Spring Street and order a classic slice from their coal-fired ovens. This is currently the oldest pizzeria in America and a place of New York legend.

Katz’s Delicatessen

Katz’s Delicatessen has been open since 1888, and they are known for their pastrami, corned beef, or brisket sandwiches. They also have other traditional Jewish foods like matzo ball soup, chicken soup, and chopped liver.

International Fair

Peking Duck House

Peking Duck House is a New York City institution that has been around since 1996. The restaurant’s name refers to the Peking ducks they serve, that’s famous for their crisp skin and juicy meat.

World Famous

Eleven Madison Park

The Flatiron District, located between Union Square and Madison Square Park, is home to New York City’s top restaurants. If you want to go somewhere fancy and get a crash course in excellent food, Eleven Madison Park was named the best restaurant in the world by World’s 50 Best Restaurants in 2017. It has three Michelin stars and is known for its modern American cuisine that uses local ingredients.

Estela

If you’re looking for a fancy option, Estela is another Michelin-starred restaurant located on the Lower East Side. Chef Ignacio Mattos brings an Argentinian flair to this tapas restaurant, specializing in small dishes, and is open for dinner only. The menu changes regularly depending on what’s available at the market and seasonally appropriate ingredients (such as wild boar or rabbit), so you’ll be sure to get something new and delicious no matter when you go.

Sea Witch Taverna

If you love seafood, don’t miss out on Sea Witch Taverna—a Greek seafood restaurant attached to a casual bar serving up cocktails made with Greek spirits like ouzo or Metaxa brandy. Sea Witch has been serving fresh seafood dishes since 2002 and has earned recognition from both critics and readers alike; it was recently named one of Zagat’s top ten best restaurants in New York City by its critics!

The next time you’re in NYC, stop by any of these locations for a one-of-a-kind culinary experience. You might just run into Dr. Oscar John Ma having a bite while you’re there.
